Opportunities in Colombia for Solar Energy

Colombia, with its privileged geographic location in the tropics and its abundant solar radiation, is presented as a country with a huge potential for the development of solar energy. The transition towards renewable energy sources is a global priority, and Colombia is no exception. This article explores the various opportunities in the solar energy sector in Colombia, as well as the challenges and the regulatory framework that accompanies it.

Solar potential in Colombia

Colombia receives an average solar radiation of 4.5 to 6.5 kWh/m2/day, with some regions reaching up to 7 kWh/m2/day. This level of radiation is comparable to that of leading countries in the production of solar energy as Spain and Australia. The areas with the greatest potential include The Guajira, Magdalena Medio, and the Eastern Plains, where the solar radiation is particularly strong and constant throughout the year.
